[He can't keep the amused look off his face, even if he's trying not to laugh outright at his friend. He pulled a handkerchief from his kimono sleeve and handed it to Cliff. Saizou, on the other hand, was unrepentant and sitting behind the couch, chewing on the sandwich.]

You have a little print on your forehead.

Just can't win...

[He was only half serious, despite his complaints. Cliff took the handkercheif and rubbed it on his forehead, trying to get the little foot print off without too much indignity.]

This is a lively place, for sure. Did you say the chicken was called Fish?

I do feel a little bad for Kohaku-chan. I don't think she knew what she was getting into when I invited her here.

[Souji giggled a little at the sight of Cliff rubbing off the hoofprint and then went over to his bedroom door. He ducked inside and emerged again a few moments later with a hen in his arms.]

This is Fish. [The hen clucked.] In the kitchen is Dog, the goldfish. And out back is Tammy, the big yellow...bird. I think someone said she was a chocobo. She can talk and can be a little impatient when being fed, so just tell her to wait and she'll let you put it down before she starts eating.

[Saizou grunted and came out from behind the couch, a small triangle of the sandwich still hanging from his mouth.]

And that is Saizou.

Pleased ta meet'cha

[It was spoken to Saizou when he emerged, and Cliff gave the pig a sharp, pointed look before he continued.]

So we've got Fish the bird, Dog the fish, Tammy the...something weird. Chocobo. Whatever. And Grumpy here. [He frowned thoughtfully and returned to his initial conclusion.] This is some kinda zoo, isn't it? [He shrugged. It was rhetorical, and he didn't care about any answer.] 'Least its comfy. And entertaining.

[Saizou huffed around his sandwich wedge and dragged it off, squeezing under the couch to go saunter across the living room back to Souji's room. His master didn't seem to notice and laughed as he leaned down to let Fish go. The chicken wandered off in the opposite direction from Saizou.]

It's what happens when I'm left to my own devices for too long. I also have pandas, but they aren't real.

[Giant stuffed animal panda. Fun fun.]

I'm glad you like it though.

[Oh, he'd have fun with those pandas if he ever passes out in the house. Not likely, but there was always the off chance.]

It ain't a bad place, for sure. I wasn't expecting so many animals, but it does have its charm.

When do we get to meet your roomie? Or is that gonna be something that'll happen on its own?

[Souji would surround him with the pandas so he woke up with them all staring at him. Because he's an awful human being like that.]

Oh, I can see if she's home. I just saw her this afternoon, so she might be.

[And he'll go off to see if Kohaku is in]

[Kohaku is indeed in. She can be found sitting on her bed, staring outside...She has nothing to do today.

[Souji knocks on her door and pokes his head inside after a moment.]

Kohaku-chan? There's someone here I'd like you to meet. Would you come out for a moment?

Of course. [So that's what all the noise was.

She'll be right at her door, poking her head out to find the new person.]

[He steps back and motions towards Cliff.]

This is Cliff-san. He'll be coming to help you take care of our zoo. Cliff-san, this is Kohaku-chan, my friend and roommate.

[Cliff grinned boyishly and stepped over. He had hung back out of politeness, as it seemed rude to intrude on a lady in her room, but here was an open invitation.

He held a hand out in greeting.]

Hi. It's nice meeting you, Kohaku.

[She'll walk out of her room, smiling, but staring at that hand for a few moments. She can't even remember her last handshake, but she'll take his hand anyway.]

It's nice to meet you too.

[And this is when Souji realizes his two bffs here are an angel and an alien.

His life is the most awesome life.]

Why don't you two get to know each other a little while I make some tea?

[Or rather, two teas and one milk and honey for Kohaku.]

Yea. Tea. That's cool.

[Cliff himself is quite unaware of Kohaku's angelic status, and only sees her as a young woman who probably has some kind of commonality with Souji. At the least, their names followed a similar pattern structure. But, he was no linguist. These honorifics were still extremely foreign to him.

He stood back with his arms akimbo and looked around thoughtfully.]

So. Uh. How do you take care of everyone in this zoo? I don't think tuna sandwiches are gonna cut it for Saizou every day.

[Well, she's not floating, since she knows that freaks people out the first time they see it, which she usually does around the house just because it's easier, and so she doesn't accidentally step on any of the animals.

But now that last sentence is strange enough to confuse her.]

...Why would you feed a pig tuna? I would ask Okita what he feeds Saizou. [Since she only know what to feed all the other animals.]

But no, I take care of the house.

[Cliff wouldn't be as shocked by her floating around as she imagined. He's fought his fair share of angelic beings back home, both on the winning and losing side. Kohaku's brand of angel was far more benign than what he knew.]

I don't know how to feed pigs. Just, I figured that it can't be much harder than feeding a kid is all. Maybe they'd even be a little easier, since kids can be picky.

[It was difficult for him to get used to the habits of the 'kid' he was talking about, but that was more than just a racial and cultural divide to get by.]

We'll check with Souji about the pig then. What all...do you do around here?

Pigs are easy to feed. Just give them food, and normally they'll eat it. Kids on the other hand are much harder. They even spit it back at you if it's something they don't like.

[A few hundred years on Earth, and she's learned quite a lot. And children are very cute to her...mostly since she has no ability to get mad...]

Not to much here, it's usually very clean...Though I get to start finding pretty plants! I'll be taking care of those.

Yea. The one I dealt with was never that bad, but you've still gotta be careful with little girls. They can get sca-ree~

[A sigh. Maria was always Maria, no matter what.]

You garden? So it actually does warm up around here?

What makes the girls scarier than the boys? [Asks the person with no real gender.]

Yes, it gets much warmer than it is! I take it that you arrived here somewhere near the end of fall or during the winter?

[Says the man who genuinely fears his childhood friend and sister-in-training during the rare times when she is angered.]

...It was snowing when I got here. And it's been cold and wet on and off for that whole time. I'm gettin' a little tired of it is all.

Is there a difference between boys and girls when they're angry?

[This, she honestly doesn't know. People around her are usually happy, or at the worst just a bit down.]

The rain is the early part of spring. Soon there will be flowers, and the trees with be green again. It'll be very pretty.

[He sighed.]

I can't wait for the weather to get better, that's for sure. I've had way too much snow for my liking recently.

[It involved some people that weren't very happy...or even kind. Crash landing in a hostile environment has its risks, but it was an occupational hazard for him.]

Look. Just trust me when I say that girls can be scary, okay? It's a little hard to explain.

Alright, though I've never really noticed anything like that before.
