...Vacations are funny, aren't they? If they last long enough, they can start to get kinda boring.

[The commentary filtered through the pages of the journal system around midday, as if it was just a part of a conversation between two individuals instead of a public address. Cliff's tone was as relaxed and casual as always, for those who knew him. There was a faint hum in the otherwise quiet background.]

I mean, the downtime is nice, but I'm kinda tired of it-- which should answer any questions about 'why' and what not, so don't bother askin'.

The name's Cliff Fittir, if any of you here don't know, and I figured I'd offer my services. If any of you want a sparring partner, trainer, teacher or whatever, I'm available. Just say something if you're interested.

And if you're not...then could ya tell me what this cool thing is?

[He flipped the video on at this point, revealing a small circular device methodically rolling across the carpet.]

I've got an idea already, which brings me to Question Two: Is there a way to get good tech supplies without needing to go outside?

[He ends the feed at that, but will be prompt with replies.]

[Cliff set off about town, looking for the aforementioned tech supplies so he could properly play with his new toy, though he would be keeping his eyes and ears alert for any of his friends and students to check up on. After a several week absence followed by a Shift that had made him appear as a young woman, there hadn't been much chance to see his people without having to answer more questions than he wanted. Furthermore, there were people that he met during that Shift that he wanted to clear things up with, one way or another.

However, he had plans for that evening...]

Yo. You better have some free time tonight.

[He had questions...but, more importantly, he had plans for both of them.]

[It was their 'anniversary', after all. He wasn't out to make Fayt sick!]

Aw, that takes all the fun out of making your apartment glittery. [He sounds so disappointed.]

So it just appeared today? That's interesting. What have you been able to make it do?

Right. [He knew that at least. He picks up a jacket he'd left slung over a chair the night before, pulling it on. Didn't want to freeze or anything, either.]

...isn't that why there's always more glitter? So you can have fun?

[There's no mocking or jest in that tone. He legitimately means this.]

I've only been able to get it to go across the floor so far, but that's why I was asking about how easy it is to get tools around here. There's gotta other things I can make it do.

Alright then, [Grinning, Cliff tugged on his bomber and pocketed his gloves,] We're off to Good Spirits!

[Fully covered, he led Fayt out toward the bar.]

[Fayt followed after, but once they're a ways out and his fingers get cold, he ends up making up for a lack of gloves by shoving his hands in his pocket--

And looking surprised when his fingers brush against something.] What the....?

[Pulling out what feels like cold metal, he stares for a second, stopping in place.] So uh...

Hey Cliff? [He holds it up-- A small, familiar ring.]

Well. Yes. But now it's easier to clean, so I'll have to think of something new.

[He's equally serious - pranking is serious business, man.]

What other things do you want it to do? Talk? Ooh! Eat? Chase things?

[If Cliff is on the look-out for his students, at least one of them won't be too hard to find. The weather has calmed down a bit, temperature aside, which means Ion will be walking around with a certain someone who is very excited to be taking a walk right now. So excited, in fact, that Ion is getting half-dragged all over the place. Thankfully Colonel is a (mostly) attentive pup, and slows to a stop whenever Ion starts looking too tired. Like right now.]

[That is, until the pup notices Cliff, and immediately starts running over to sniff around his shoes, practically dragging poor Ion behind him.]

C-Colonel, hold on, you're-- oh! Hello, Cliff. It's been awhile, hasn't it?

Whoa--hey, Ion!

[Grinning at the excited greeting from the dog, Cliff offered a to sniff.]

It has. What's up? And, when did ya get this dog?

--Uh, it's a machine, not a pet!

[He didn't want it to eat or talk or anything like that. Chasing things was an option, but there was so much more that he could do with a little machine like this that was beyond what any 'pet' would naturally do.]

[Cliff stopped and turned around-- and lifted his brows in surprise when his gaze lighted on the ring.]

Hey, is that what I think it is?

[It couldn't be...]

...It looks like it... [He fiddles with the ring, holding it up to get a better look at the single small stone set into it, gleaming strangely.

....Yeah, that definitely looked like the one Vanilla made them.]

Can't say for sure without trying it, but it looks like the Ring of Disintegration. What's it doing in my pocket?

The better question is, what's it doing here?

[Because, the last time he checked, his Quad Scanner was still malfunctioning. He was under the impression that this world didn't want them to have anything of their's that worked properly if it wasn't a weapon or some clothes.]

Heck if I know. [He examines the ring a little while longer, before glancing up from it to Cliff.] Hey, do you think it showed up at the same time your little robot thing did? It wasn't there when I took off my jacket yesterday.

[That might make sense..... but why was the question.]

[Headscratch.]

...huh. Maybe. The Vac did just show up outta nowhere for no reason, after all. But it's just random. The ring? Not so much.

Give me a second, I'm trying to think of the name of it... [At the moment, it's slipped his mind. It's not like he paid much attention to them, other than to watch cats riding on them.] I know they clean the room for you... It's a something.

It's a vacuum, I know. But it sure ain't one of those push vacuums with the cord that's more normal around here. It's a nice change of pace, don't you think?

[Colonel gives a quick sniff before prancing around, running back towards Ion and then around him, quickly tying him up with the leash.]

Oh, we've had Colonel for about a year now. He showed up as a puppy right around Christmas... [He's trying to de-tangle himself, but Colonel is having none of it, skipping around excitedly.]

[And then he darts back towards Cliff with a very enthusiastic Such tall! which has the unfortunate side effect of pulling Ion down to the ground with a yelp. Well, at least he can finally sit down.]

...he's a bit more of a handful than he was back then.

Yeah, I don't get it either... but it's the only idea I've got. [He glances around, looking to see if there was anything he could test it on.

Hmm... He couldn't just destroy something people needed...]

[Wow. Chuckling at the display, Cliff crouched down on the ground beside Ion-- why not?]

Well, puppies can't be little forever. They've gotta grow up too.

[He offered a hand to pull Ion up off the cold ground, if Ion wanted.]

But, last Christmas? [The comment made him wonder,] did he just show up outta the blue for no reason?

It ain't a bad one. Makes me wonder if it's got anything to do with Christmas...

[The conversation he had with Ion about his dog earlier made it the only plausible option in his book.]

Maybe.... you know, I think they were keeping a tally of how many people we kissed during that last experiment, too. [Just a guess, but either one of those could be why in Fayt's opinion.]

Should we test it?

[Ion takes care to detangle himself first, and then undoes the leash from Colonel's collar -- he seems to feel a little bad about knocking Ion down, so he's just gonna sit next to him, in alert mode. Is Such Tall guy a friend? Seems like it.]

[With that done, Ion takes Cliff's hand to stand.]

I believe he came as part of the Malnosso's yearly gifts. He actually belongs to Tear, though he's grown rather fond of all of us. [Colonel agrees with a bark.]

You really are going to hurt Voomy's feelings if you keep saying that Cliff-san. Just because he's metal doesn't mean he can't hear you.

Yeah... They're really expensive back at home. Probably why not everyone has one. [He certainly couldn't afford it unless he saved up for years.]

It's like a... I want to say it's a vroom-something, but that doesn't sound right.
