[The words, made audible through an accidental feed on the journal that Cliff threw aside, were cut off by the crack of splintering wood as his fist slammed into it at full throttle. Cliff had finally awoken from his shift-induced dream, and he was pissed. It was just unfortunate that the first person he saw that morning had to be the target for his frustration at the Malnosso.

He was going to crush their captors...after he crushed Albel Nox.

It wasn't going to be pretty.]

Sorry 'bout the mess this morning. Technical difficulties. Won't happen again.

Now. What the hell was that last week? A shift? That's one helluva-- [He stopped and took a deep, calming breath.] Don't tell me that happens all the time.

I'm more than game if anyone wants to work off some stress. See ya at the Barracks. Or the Dome. I dunno.

[True to his word, Cliff could be found at both the Barracks and the Battle Dome at various points throughout the day, as he restlessly wandered between the two facilities because neither actually fit his needs for the moment. A good spar was what he had in mind, although he wouldn't say no to company with someone that didn't know him and was actually sane.

Hey, Missie. Is this all ya got?

[Because this was why he hated battle sims. All flashy stuff without the punch.]

[As if in answer to that, an opponent appears, sideswiping Cliff with a suckerpunch. A tall, blonde man in a grey suit. Jadeite.]

I programmed a few surprises. [Rei sounds bored as she stares at the Dark Moon General.]

Whoa!

[Reflexes kicked in and he dodged the blow--barely. There was a reason that bullets didn't work on Klausians, and it wasn't because they were extremely durable. Cliff returned fire with a punch of his own. Two could play that game!]

You're better than I thought. Who is this guy?

An old enemy.

[She calls up flame, her hands roiling with energy, glaring at Jadeite]

He's very strong. Look out.

[His fists lash out again, taking the punch from Cliff with only a grunt.]

I can tell!

[Cliff blocked the blow in the nick of time, paying for both underestimating the girl and the simulation. She was better than he realized, both in her programming skills and her choice in opponent. It was hypocritical for him to think that way, he knew, but he didn't quite believe anything that he couldn't verify on his own.

He also didn't believe that simulations were a good way to train, but he was learning otherwise fairly quickly.

He dealt another punch, but was ready to pull out for her inevitable fire bolt when the time came.]

[Rei...kept preparing that fireball, weaving together her powers, the Charter, Eferin, and Helios firespell. This was an experiment, to see how strong she could make it within the barrier. And when she finally let it go, it streaked towards Jadeite with a roar.]

Careful!

[Although he had no idea about the exact nature of her work, Cliff had been keeping a close eye on her progress--and dodged the spell with barely any notice.]

[Jadeite roared as the fireball struck him, leaving nothing left but a cinder. Of course, there were still the Dead Hands...]

[...Which he was already on top of. It was almost mindless--except for the fact that there was a mob of them.]

[This time, Rei tries a new tactic. She focuses on conjuring flames around Cliff's hands, letting them burn when he punches, and closes her eyes in concentration to keep it going. Hopefully Cliff can keep them off her]

[Cliff grinned when he noticed what was going on, and the trick wasn't that unfamiliar to him. Although none of his comrades had performed that type of spell directly, he was reminded of the offensive magics and the augmentation magics that he had seen and experienced himself.]

Hah. I'll return the favor someday!

[He took out a few more Dead Hands, keeping a fair distance between them and the girl. She didn't need to worry about anything but her work.]

[Rei's rather grateful for that...and she keeps up concentration on the spell. Which only grows in intensity with each KO'd Dead Hand. The dry flesh seems to kindle the flames, making them stronger...]

[Whatever this girl was doing was working wonders for both the battle at hand and his need for catharsis. Each Hand was met with equal fervor as he decided to just enjoy the fight.

There would be questions later, but he was just going to have fun for now.]

[And fun he can have. Eventually he'll run out, though, and she'll end the spell]

Did you enjoy yourself?

[He flashed her a grin in reply, his answer clear before he spoke up.]

Missie. That was just what I needed today. I gotta say, that was some neat work with the flames. What kinda magic was that?

[Rei nods her head politely]

Something I learned here.

[And after all that, she realizes something.]

I never asked your name. I'm sorry, that was rude. I am Rei Hino. What should I call you?

Cliff Fittir, and it's no problem. Sounds like we both had one helluva morning.

[But, that was behind him for the moment. He could always punch Albel another day. A hand was offered in greeting.]

That was quite the simulation you had back there. I'm not really one for spars like this, but it was fun.

It's nice to meet you, Cliff-san.

[She inclines her head, her...irritation mostly spent]

Thank you. I tried to make it interesting.

[Cliff chuckled at the use of the honorific.]

Heh. Y'know? You're lucky I met Okita earlier today. Never understood that 'san' thing before.

And ya did make it damn interesting. Kinda like something...nah. Never mind.

Ah, you've met Souji-san? [She half smiles in recognition] It's just an honorific.

[A raised eyebrow follows though, and that level stare]

Just something a friend of mind would do. [Like that level stare...] She uses a gun, but the situation's the same.

If she's lucky, the two of you won't have to meet.

Hopefully not. It's better to avoid coming here.

[He looked at her, curious.]
