Yo. Everyone.

[It was midday that he addressed the village as a whole, without any lead-in or hint of apology in his tone for being so goddamn casual.]

I'm lookin' for a friend of mine. He's got long hair and has a pet pig-- lemme know if you see him.

[Action]

[It was training, Souji had been insisting for the last few weeks when he set an enraged, squealing Saizou upon him without any warning. Speed training for a little game between the two of them that they both had a stake in. And, finally-- after many days of running from the grumpy little pig-- the game was on.

Cliff had 24 hours to catch Souji. Truth be told, he had no idea what the little prankster was up to.

He'll be anywhere and everywhere around town that day, searching every corner and under every table for any hint of that teasing smile...all the while remaining on high alert for anything that would attempt to dive-bomb him.]

Thanks. [He laughed.] I try.

Oh, really?

[He mentally made a tally of people he had already met from that world-- Florian, Ion, Jade, possibly Nephry, and now Tear. Despite the circumstances, Ion was a very lucky kid.]

He's sure got a lot of people around. I've just been helping him get back on his feet over the last couple months, that's all.

A poor choice. [He might be Cliff's 'comrade' but Vegeta couldn't give two shits.]

Don't let an idiot like that get you killed. And hear me now when I say he'll manage just that one day.

Trust me, I know.

[He was a wanted terrorist, after all. His own actions had nearly been the death of him, and Albel was notorious for being a loose cannon.]

Doesn't change my stance either. But...thanks for the warning.

[It just showed that, in a small way, Vegeta did care.]

Ugh. I shouldn't have to warn you about these things. [Duuuuuuuuump Albel Cliff it's the only safe option he promises]

If you want to keep him around, fine. But don't be surprised if you find him spread across the side of that cliff the next time around.

No complaints and no regrets if that happens. He probly would have deserved it, too.

[Albel the Wicked, after all, made his own messes that everyone else needed to clean up.]

I might be a little soft, I know, but I ain't gonna give up on someone from home. Maybe he'll learn something one of these days.

I doubt it. [Eh, either way it's Cliff's problem as far as he's concerned.]

Either way, good luck with playing hide and seek with your boyfriend. If I happen to find him and his pig I'll do you both a favor and make you a nice ham dinner.

Uh-- thanks.

[Headscratch. He had forgotten the little problem that was named Saizou.]

Oh second thought, let's skip the ham and say we did. It's not cool to eat your lover's pet.

Have it your way. I just thought I'd offer a nice gesture for a change.

[Because that's totally nice to do, right.]

Well, don't worry 'bout food. We'll think of something that doesn't involve ham.

[Or pork. Or bacon. Or barbeque.

He didn't want to incur any more of Saizou's wrath upon himself.]

[Aleos is a name Souji has heard, but he doesn't know the boy well - someone to investigate later then.]

I'll be sure to come by and tap on the door to let you know when I leave, how about that? Where will you be?

That works, too. [Fayt stretches a little, glancing towards his room. He should probably grab a few things... His journal at least.] Aleos' apartment is the first room on the first floor, so I'll be just downstairs.

Then when we finish here, I'll knock on the door to let you know. [And maybe catch a glimpse of this Aleos that Fayt often mentions.]

He must be a good friend to let you visit so suddenly.

He's a bit on the shy side, but he's a good kid. [Really, Aleos was just the kind of guy who made you want to look out for him a bit.]

Why not bring him by for dinner sometime then? If he's shy, he might benefit from having a "family" dinner with other people.

Dinner....? [Hmm... the problem would be convincing him to come...]

I'll see if he'd be interested. He really does need more people to be around.

Then it's decided!

[Souji clapped his hands together happily and smiled at Fayt.]

Bring your friend along whenever you can get him out of his house and I'll be sure to set another plate out.

[Fayt had left Souji with a lot of questions, but unless Cliff missed the deadline in the next few minutes he wouldn't be able to get answers to any of them. Since he was at a stalemate and moving now would just be foolish, Souji stayed where he was on the couch; his menagerie of colorful paper animals growing until it covered the sofa, table and several spots on the floor. He didn't know half of these creatures, but the book he'd taken from the library said they were things like peacocks, gorillas, giraffes, elephants - exotic things from far away lands.

Souji simply waited, folding a bright pink dinosaur out of a large sheet of paper, keeping one eye on the door.]

Yes, and we've had His Majesty with us for some time as well. [He added more energy to the house, at least.]

If you don't mind my asking why, how exactly have you been helping him?

[He was late.

He knew it in his bones, in the way the sun had slid from the sky and the moon had taken it's place, but he didn't let the facts deter him. A deal was a deal-- and, after everything that had happened throughout the day, he didn't think that his loss was too great. He had made some new friends, after all.

It was well after dark when he returned to the apartment, planning on kicking his boots off and shooting Souji a brief, congratulatory message before he flopped onto the couch for the night. He didn't expect the veritable flood of colored paper that brushed against the toes of his boots when he opened the door.

He stared at the mess, surprised, and scanned the room for it's source before his eyes lighted on the familiar figure sitting comfortably amid the clutter.]

...Souji?

[The door finally opened just after the hour ticked by and Souji looked up, setting his pink dinosaur down on top of the pile of other dinosaurs on the table. He smiled and waved, wiggling his fingers at Cliff a little as the man stood dumbfounded amid the mess of his room.]

Good evening, Cliff-san. I was wondering when you'd come home.

[Cliff stared at Souji, stunned by the sheer level of comfort and casualness that the other man had smiled at him with.]

Just...how long have you been here?

Long enough to send Saizou home after he had his afternoon nap.

[He looked around the room at his piles of paper clutter.]

And to do all this.

[He returned his gaze to Cliff and smiled again.]

Fayt-kun is at Aleos-kun's apartment. He said he'd stay there until we were finished.

So...you've been here awhile.

[He scratched his head in boyish embarrassment, internally chiding himself for being so short sighted. Instead of wandering all the way to the northern end of the village to meet a man who fit Souji's description, he should have just stayed in his room...

Cliff sighed, defeated.]

He is, huh? [Aleos' apartment was on the floor just below, he recalled. It wasn't too far at all.] And...what are we going to be doing that he's gotta wait for? Making toys for Saizou?

You could say that.

[Souji picked up a pillow that housed a collection of different colored birds and set it on the table next to the dinosaurs. With the space cleared, he motioned for Cliff to sit and waited for him to draw closer before speaking again.]

Fayt-kun assumed we'd want some privacy, considering the stakes of our bet.
