...Vacations are funny, aren't they? If they last long enough, they can start to get kinda boring.

[The commentary filtered through the pages of the journal system around midday, as if it was just a part of a conversation between two individuals instead of a public address. Cliff's tone was as relaxed and casual as always, for those who knew him. There was a faint hum in the otherwise quiet background.]

I mean, the downtime is nice, but I'm kinda tired of it-- which should answer any questions about 'why' and what not, so don't bother askin'.

The name's Cliff Fittir, if any of you here don't know, and I figured I'd offer my services. If any of you want a sparring partner, trainer, teacher or whatever, I'm available. Just say something if you're interested.

And if you're not...then could ya tell me what this cool thing is?

[He flipped the video on at this point, revealing a small circular device methodically rolling across the carpet.]

I've got an idea already, which brings me to Question Two: Is there a way to get good tech supplies without needing to go outside?

[He ends the feed at that, but will be prompt with replies.]

[Cliff set off about town, looking for the aforementioned tech supplies so he could properly play with his new toy, though he would be keeping his eyes and ears alert for any of his friends and students to check up on. After a several week absence followed by a Shift that had made him appear as a young woman, there hadn't been much chance to see his people without having to answer more questions than he wanted. Furthermore, there were people that he met during that Shift that he wanted to clear things up with, one way or another.

However, he had plans for that evening...]

[He had questions...but, more importantly, he had plans for both of them.]

[He imagined that they would be, if they existed in a 21st century timeline Earth. The concept was normal for him, and the device itself was a very baseline analogue for the tech that he already understood.

The name was incidental, but Cliff made a face when the young man tried to remember what it was called.]

Wait a sec, don't tell me it's actually called a 'voomy'!

[The tally would explain the little dashes, for sure. They were too coincidental.]

Hey, why not? It'd be cool to see if we can get something to work around here for once.

[But what would they test it on, he wondered.]

Fine, then. We'll figure out something for Voomy to do that's not just vacuuming. He should have more than that in his life.

Do you think Saizou can ride him?

[Only because the tiny swordsman's simply impossible.]

...Saizou can try, but it won't be very fast. Voomy's a very detail oriented little bot. 'Not a speck of dirt will go unswept'-- that kinda thing.

See anything we can try it on? [He glances around, looking for something, anything...

Hmm... a rock wouldn't be missed, right? He puts on the ring, nodding towards a decently sized rock on the side of the path.]

Wanna try it on that?

Well, maybe it'll help calm him down then. He likes riding on things now that I've gotten him used to taking walks with Tammy.

And he's very clean, so at least Voomy won't have to clean him.

[Cliff thought about this, and thought about it hard.]

...Guess I'll need to bring Voomy over to your place sometime and introduce them, huh?

[Because, he didn't mind Saizou, but he didn't want an animal that didn't like him in his own apartment.]

Oh, but I could easily bring Saizou over. He should know where I might be spending more time in the future unless you want him to worry and come looking for me. [aka barge in and attack]

[He nodded in reply.]

[Teddy makes a face in return - no, that's even further from what he was thinking of.]

No, no, I know the 'r' is important. It's like... roo - roomba. That's it! It's a roomba.

Alright, I'll give it a try. [He points the ring at the rock, focusing it for a second, before--

The rock vaporizes, just as it should, leaving an empty space where it had been.] ....Hey, it works!

[Wasn't the 'attack' part already part of Saizou's MO? Cliff sighed, knowing full well that there was no way to win this argument either.]

Well, if you think that's easier...you've just gotta keep him on his best behavior, alright?

A 'roomba'? Huh.

[He wasn't sure which name sounded crazier. :| ]

I'll be sure to feed him on the way over, he gets a bit sleepy after that.

Just let me know when would be best to come by - I wouldn't want to drop in unannounced. [Like all the other hundred or so times he's probably done it.]

Yup. Roomba. Probably could've come up with a better name.

It was too expensive for us to get, so I never looked much into it. I just know that people like to post videos of cats or dogs riding around on it.

[Not that they'd need it anyway. He and his mother were pretty neat with their apartment, when he still lived there.]

[Cliff let out a short, delighted laugh.]

Hah-- it does! What do ya know?!

[Not like Souji ever did anyway, because spontaneous drop-ins are totally a thing.]

And if feeding the little guy is what keeps him calm, then do it. I dunno what he'd do to everything in here if he decides to get grumpy on us.

But a roomba....I imagine it would be expensive, looking at all of the stuff inside this thing. If it hasn't become standard yet, then there's no way a person would risk buying a novelty... no wonder they let their cats ride around it. It's a toy to them.

So he's a friendly guy, huh?

[Good to know. Cliff grinned and reached out to give Colonel a quick scratch on the ear-- it wasn't often he got to see dogs anyway.]

That's gotta be cool, even if he is your room mate's pup. [It was just the idea of having something to fuss over, and having it fuss back, that made a pet so appealing.]

That's like a vacuum cleaner, I think.

[Getting the first question out of the way.]

And, out of curiosity, what sort of training are you offering, Cliff-san?

I kinda figured it was something like that. It's picking up every piece of paper I drop on the floor for it.

[It was part of his test. As soon as he activated it and saw it make a circuit around the room, he had wondered how it's reactions were. Watching it zip back and forth in oddly smooth motions to pick up every speck of dirt was oddly entertaining.]

...I'm mostly offering unarmed stuff for training. You know, hand-to-hand, basic self defense and all. It's nothing too special, but there's so many specialists around here that you've gotta wonder if anyone's even bothering with this stuff.

[He grinned.]

You don't happen to be interested, do you?

Actually, yes. I would be. I've got a first dan in aikido, but I could really use some training and exercise that isn't by myself, or with my...well...my powers.

[He knows the ones.]

Aah, I hear ya on that one.

[It was hard to forget those powers ~~and that obscenely short skirt~~ of her's when she was like that, but he could see where her particular talents would blind people to the skills she had as a normal young woman. He nodded, sympathetically.]

It's also hard to find decently trained fighters around here who don't rely on a sword or some other weapon. They're nice to train with sometimes...but, you start to miss the basics.

[He wouldn't admit it openly very often, but he sorely missed his sister-in-training. She could kick his ass any day of the week, but the fights were worth it.]

Well, that's the sort of thing I could use. Sometimes I'd work with Smoker-san, but he's gone. So is Korra-san, the other person I trained with. So, I'm looking for someone who can teach me new things. I'd like to get better at using my fists, and not just throws.

[And her bow, of course.]
