...Vacations are funny, aren't they? If they last long enough, they can start to get kinda boring.
[The commentary filtered through the pages of the journal system around midday, as if it was just a part of a conversation between two individuals instead of a public address. Cliff's tone was as relaxed and casual as always, for those who knew him. There was a faint hum in the otherwise quiet background.]
I mean, the downtime is nice, but I'm kinda tired of it-- which should answer any questions about 'why' and what not, so don't bother askin'.
The name's Cliff Fittir, if any of you here don't know, and I figured I'd offer my services. If any of you want a sparring partner, trainer, teacher or whatever, I'm available. Just say something if you're interested.
And if you're not...then could ya tell me what this cool thing is?
[He flipped the video on at this point, revealing a small circular device methodically rolling across the carpet.]
I've got an idea already, which brings me to Question Two: Is there a way to get good tech supplies without needing to go outside?
[He ends the feed at that, but will be prompt with replies.]
[Action]
[Cliff set off about town, looking for the aforementioned tech supplies so he could properly play with his new toy, though he would be keeping his eyes and ears alert for any of his friends and students to check up on. After a several week absence followed by a Shift that had made him appear as a young woman, there hadn't been much chance to see his people without having to answer more questions than he wanted. Furthermore, there were people that he met during that Shift that he wanted to clear things up with, one way or another.
However, he had plans for that evening...]
[Action: Private for Fayt Leingod]
Yo. You better have some free time tonight.
[He had questions...but, more importantly, he had plans for both of them.]

[ First thing that comes to Ash's mind always. Ash you're not even in a Pokemon world stop ]
[Headscratch. Cliff flipped the journal and stared incredulously at the kid in the feed.]
A 'pokemon'? What the heck is that?
[He was pretty sure that his new toy was some kind of vacuum...]
[ And right then Pikachu comes into view of the journal ]
This is Pikachu! Pikachu is one of a lot of Pokemon but this one here is my best buddy!
So a 'pokemon' is a kind of animal then. Like something you'd find wild, or something you'd keep as a pet?
You mean like teaching 'em to sit or stay, like for dog show?
[How many different kinds were there? Were international competitions that popular in that world?]
[ Don't mind Pikachu who looks mildly offended that you think they need to be taught to sit or stay
well some of them do but....][video]
You train your pokemon to fight another person's pokemon.
[Cliff was used to different kinds of pets, like dogs or pigs. Animals like that generally needed some kind of training just to be polite. Training for tricks made sense to him. Training for combat...
That was an entire ethical can of worms that was as heavy as the Underdeveloped Planet Protection Pact. Practices like that were illegal, to his understanding.]
[ And as Ash explains that Pikachu's cheeks spark as a demonstration ]
...How many other kinds of critters like that are there?
[ He could check his Pokedex but he's not really thinking about it right now ]
I see. And, you said there were all different kinds?
Yeah! There are a lot o' the same kind, like Pikachu isn't th' only Pikachu. But there are a lot o' other Pokemon too!
[It's pretty tall. Cliff himself is taller than the average Earthling man, not that it would be easy to see in a video.]
See? I think I'd rather fight one of those myself instead of sending your little friend in. But, I don't quite get why you guys train monsters to fight monsters anyway.
[Headscratch. There, he said it.]
Why don't we talk about this 'monsters as friends' thing instead? I've never heard of that before.
All my Pokemon are my friends! Pikachu here is my best buddy!
Pikachu pi~
[video]
[Headscratch. It was becoming clear that this was not someone to ask about ethical and moral details regarding pokemon training.]
Anyway, I can tell you for sure that the Vac here ain't one of your pokemon. It's a machine, some kinda vacuum by the looks of it, and I was wondering if anyone had ever seen anything similar.
[He himself had seen plenty of more advanced models on a starship in another dimension, but that was beside the point.]
Have you and your friend ever seen anything like it?
[ He doesn't seem too disappointed by this. In fact he quickly turns this around and become more fascinated at the vaccuum ]
I haven't seen anything like it! What does it do?
[With that he rotated the journal around to focus in on the Vac, and he proceeded to drop bits of shredded paper on the floor nearby. Sure enough, the little machine recalculated its movement around the room to account for the new mess and it rolled right over it-- leaving only clean carpeting behind.]
That... That's... ]
SO COOOL!
[ Ash is easily amused and impressed ok ]
[Cliff laughed. The kid might be a total pokemon nerd, but he had good taste!]
[ It would be something Mr. Mime would probably appreciate so he didn't have to always sweep in and around the house! ]
